Death of your partner

What happens in the event of my partner’s death?

If an entitlement to partner’s pension exists and in the event if your partner’s predecease, this entitlement to a partner’s pension ends. This will generally have no effect on your retirement pension. But there are exceptions to this rule.

Please contact the Pension Fund for precise information regarding the consequences of the predecease of your partner for your personal pension situation. The staff of the Pension Administration and Information department are pleased to assist you with any questions and comments you may have.

Death of a former partner

Is anything likely to change in the event of my former partner’s predecease?

If you are divorced and your former partner was receiving a share of the retirement pension under the Pension Settlement (Divorce) Act, this settlement will end in the event of your former partner’s predecease. Your retirement pension will increase as a consequence.

If your former partner was entitled to a special partner’s pension, this will end in the event of your former partner’s predecease. It is possible that any new (present) partner will become eligible for this entitlement. Please contact the Pension Fund for information about your personal situation in this respect.
